How To Create a Story Narrative for Your Pitch Deck

You will have always wanted to craft a compelling investment pitch deck for your startup.

So, let's start with first understanding 'What is the job of a Pitch Deck?' in a startup's Fundraising Journey.

The purpose of a Pitch Deck is to persuade an investor to invest in your business.

And what does an investor want?

Return on investment and How does this startup as an investment opportunity fare when compared to many others (might or might not) have.

So, the pitch deck has this one job of sowing the idea in the head of a potential investor that your startup has a higher probability to give him/her an exponential return.

There are three main things that a startup's investment deck must touch upon to establish a high probability return on investment.

Market Opportunity - The deck must build a strong narrative to showcase that the startup is trying to capture a real market opportunity by solving a problem that people are willing to pay for.

Growth Potential - How big is the market opportunity? For a VC kind of return, the expectation is to have a market large enough that can generate $1 billion or more in revenue. A great company solving a critical problem can still be a bad venture investment if the Growth Potential is very small, as it would mean the potential return multiple is as well too small.

The Founding Team - The only differentiating factor between early-stage startups -- is the founders. In the very early stages, a company is nothing more than the collective efforts of the founding team. Therefore, how talented and able the founding team, is a major contributing factor to success. The team is something that could make or break the startup despite all odds being against the startup.
